Buying a used car?
I want to buy a used car, but I’m not sure about reliability and safety. What kinds of cars seem to be most reliable? I would like to get an American made car…What cars seem most safe?

I respect the fact you want to buy american, other people saying their not reliable is just wrong. Fact is that Toyota had more recalls last year than GM. Every Dealership I have ever seen had a service department, even Toyota. My point is if they are so good why do they need mechanics. Thats right they break too.
Now to answear your question I would just find a car that you like and would enjoy driving. All cars must meet gov’t safety regulations, and as far as reliable goes they are machines and there is always the chance of a bad one.

american cars right now arent really that reliable so i would go with a toyota or a nissan or mazda, but if you want american go with a dodge
I agree with the first guy. I had a Voyager not too long ago and it kept breaking down. I bought a Civic about a month and a half ago and the same problems arose, BUT I don’t have to take it to the shop every time because I can take care of it myself quite easily. And I don’t know the first thing about cars! Here’s what someone told me about American vs. Japanese cars: you need three wires to do one thing with an American car, while you need only one wire to do the same thing with a Japanese one.
Also, if you want to save money, Japanese cars are the way to go. My Voyager had a 60 litre tank and cost about $70 now to fill it. It can go 400 kms before I have to fill up a week later. My Civic goes the same distance with a 40 litre tank a week and a half later. I also just had my transmission fluids changed. For some reason, it only cost me $96, while with my Voyager, it was $120. Something about a better fluid filter on a Civic so they don’t have to change that or something or other, I can’t remember.
You’ll also hear a lot about how Japanese cars aren’t safe. The only thing that makes cars safe are the drivers, NOT the vehicle. Yes, Japanese cars are a lot lighter, but if you don’t do stupid things (like not signalling, maintaining your tires and brakes, etc, etc), you’ll do fine.
