What can not capping your brake fluid chamber do to your car?

I (first time buyer) bought a car from a shady dealership in VA, where lemon laws on used cars are non existant unless undisclosed problems are acctually safety hazards. The engine had been swapped the intake was cracked and brake fluid cap was replaced by one that didnt fit and slid around letting air into the chamber. I’m not a car guy but have been told that, air in the breaking system isn’t good. Can anyone give me more info?

Car dealership sold used car with unresolved emission problem.. what next?

We bought a 4 yr old used car for ,000 in Texas. We have signed "as is" document. within the first week car gave ‘Check Engine Light’.
We ignored the problem for a week thinking that loose fuel cap caused it. After 15 days we got the car inspected and got some code which meant it is a emission related problem and some parts needs to be replaced. At the time we purchased car autocheck showed clean history and all info was good. Asked the dealer if there was any problem with the car at the time of purchase.
He says "No" and we go ahead and try to fix the problem through mechanic referred by him for 0 on the 3rd week of car. After this we checked our own car’s autocheck report again and got to know something which shocked us. 7 days before we bought the car, car had failed
emission/ safety inspection and then it had passed emission/ safety test after a week. Both records were uptadated by third week of our car purchase. Now even after paying 0 to fix the problem CEL is still there and mechanic says we may have to spend few hundreds extra to fix the problem. Today is 4th week of our owning the car. In this case should dealer fix the problem as car
failed emission test 1 week before we bought the car and has started giving CEL 1 week after we bought car which is related to emission related components.

My question is,

1) Should dealer actually help us fix the problem which is related to some emission related component as car had failed emission/ safety test 1 week before we bought car but later had passed the test 1 day before we bought car

2) Should we go ahead and spend another hundreds or may be thousands of dollars to fix the problem?

3) What are the legal limitations here?

Sorry for the long story. We are very upset as we have bought a very expensive car and it has started giving problem with emission component on car and which has also failed emission test 1 week before we bought car which dealer hided from us.

Any valuable suggestion is very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Is there a special harness that can be used to ensure the safety of a dog while in the car?

The last time I had a dog, nothing of that nature was available. My dog loved to look out the window and watch the world go by, but I worried that he wasn’t belted in like the humans were. If I had been in an accident, the poor dog might’ve been hurt or killed.

I want to adopt a dog, but before I do that, I want to figure out how to make car rides both enjoyable and safe. I wouldn’t want to use a carrier, because they prevent the dog from looking around and enjoying the ride. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Miranda, I volunteer at a shelter and plan on adopting a dog from there. I also encourage others to do the same. Thanks for spreading the word!

Are you educated on car seat safety? Please read!?

I get so sick of seeing so many parents buckling their babies into car seats wrong. It drives me insane! What’s the point in even using one if its not being used right? First of all, babies MUST remain rear facing until they are AT LEAST one year AND 20 pounds. That is only the minimum though. The longer you rear face your baby, the safer they are. Most car seats can rear face up to 35 pounds. If you have ever been in a crash, remember the tremendous amount of force it can put on your neck? Well imagine a little baby trying to hold their head up in a crash. They are simply not strong enough to withstand the force of a crash, which is why rear facing can save their life because the shell of the car seat absorbs the impact instead. Now as far as using car seats correctly..make sure the car seat is always buckled in very tightly. The car seat should not be able to move back and forth and be wiggled easily. Also, the straps should be very snug on your child. You should be able to get no more than 2 fingertips between the strap and your child’s shoulder. The straps should also always be on the shoulders, not slipping off the shoulders. The chest clip also always needs to be all the way up to armpit level. I see so many moms who have the chest clip way down by the child’s waist and the straps are way too loose. If you get into a crash like that, I can almost guarantee your child will be ejected from the car seat and possibly thrown from the vehicle because the strips and clip won’t be able to keep them in the seat. If the chest clip is down too far, the straps will simply fall to the sides of your child and the child will rip right out of the seat. And with older children..they should always remain in a booster seat until they are at least 4′9. The longer an older child remains in a 5-point harness, the safer they are. My son has the Graco Nautilus car seat and he can remain buckled in the 5-point harness until 65 pounds! I included links of pictures to show the correct and incorrect way to buckle your child. I just want to make sure everyone knows the right and wrong way to buckle their kids.

This first picture shows how unsafe the buckle job is. That child would be ripped from her seat in a crash http://www.safechildofmine.com/files/187…

This is how a baby should be buckled with the straps nice and tight and the chest clip up at armpit level http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v626/c…

At least watch this short a video about the importance of rear facing. Its very important information http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2DVfqFhs…
Well what the heck..sorry I’m not sure why the links aren’t working. Go to youtube and type in rear facing. Its the first video that comes up. Please watch!

Should I continue using a car seat for my 14 year old son?

All 3 of my boys ages 8,11 and 14 still use car seats. They are all very small for their age.

My 14 year old prepubescent son is only 4′10-4′11 around 85 lbs, I still make him use a booster seat while riding in the car.

Should I remove the car seat and allow him to sit in the car without it? Its always been used for a good safety reasons
He is not emberrased by any of his friends, a couple of his friends still use a booster seat, and almost all his friends are around age 11.

Does anyone have spare parts to a Designer 22 Safety 1st car seat?

We have had one child already, and we took off all the straps and things to clean them, and we misplaced the safety latch hook that hooks the straps into the buckle in between the legs. We are trying to find if someone has a seat they no longer use or knows where I can get one. Our model number and our manufacture date from the side have both been worn off and since we have neither one, we can not order the pieces. Or if you can just e-mail me the model number and manufacture date, we can order the pieces ourselves. Thanks!

Used car sale..buyer wants repairs 9 months later??

Sold used car as is…buyer wants repairs
We sold a used car. The buyer did not take it for an inspection and had his attorney draw up an AS IS contract that was signed by all. We told him that all repairs and records were at "xyz" shop and gave him any paperwork that we could gather. It is now nine months later and he called to say that the XYZ shop told him about an issue with the car that occured while the car was ours but that we had decided not to repair it as it did not affect the driveability nor the safety of the car. My husband drove the car approx. 6 months after that and it was fine. He wants over 1,500 from us to repair it and claims he has a case based on fraud. Is this worth getting an attorney for?

Car sold as is.
No inspection
Nine months have passed
thanks for the replies…
he is claiming "fraud" stating that we didn’t tell him that it needed that repair. He only found out about it when after driving the car for 9 months he took it to the mechanic (which we gave him the full name number etc..because we had nothing to hide) and the mechanic said..oh …that was a problem before but the owner didn’t fix it because it wasn’t necessary. We in fact drove the car 6-7 months after that diagnosis with no problems. Case of fraud??????
oh…he was the one who brought the as is contract and claims he had it written up by his lawyer friend. The car was not over 7k dollars .

I bought a used car, that was deceptively misrepresented? what can i do?

Bought a 2000 mazda millenia on mon that id checked out sat. Exhausted the guys parents who were showing the car to potential sellers with questions.Explained I was on a fixed social security income and single mom& wanted to make sure i wouldnt get stuck with something that needed repair or was unsafe. And assured me over and over it was safe in good working order& the only problem it had was that the used dealer didnt give their son the keyfob that automatically unlocks the doors or shuts off the alarm remotely. On monday before I exchaged the check for the title I grilled the son about the condition of the car and any defects it had, assured again that there were none.Next day i realize the horn wont work & the passenger door wont lock.Horn is a huge safety issue &alarm wont sound,so the door that wont unlock just invites a car jacking.Refused to talk until threatened w/court, then admitted they knew of problems but only will only pay half of 9.00 repairs!Take 1/2 or go to court?

What is the better used car?

We are looking at these 3 cars… 2004 Suzuki Forenza, 2001 Hyundai Tiburon, 2005 Kia Rio. What would be the best buy for reliablity and safety? This will be a car that our 18 year old daughter would mainly be driving.
I realize these aren’t the "best" cars, but are what we have found around where we live, with the lowest miles, in the price we can afford.
